In this paper, we explore magneteoelectricity of rare earth orthochromites from the symmetry point view. We determine principal structural order parameters and find their couplings with ferroelectric magnetic orderings. Our calculations showed that electric dipole moments emerge in vicinity Cr3+ ions unit cell RCrO3 due to displacements oxygen highly symmetric positions parent perovskite phase (structural instability). are arranged an antiferroelectric mode, so, essence, materials. By classifying according irreducible representations group (D2h16), possible between distortive, orderings emerging magnetoelectric structures these terms. analysis makes it explain experimentally observed polarization reversal concomitant reorientation spins a series compounds predict scenarios transitions RCrO3.
